Old Vine Malbec 2018 - Luca
Lately, if we see a wine that says "Old Vine" and it's at a reasonable price we buy it without any doubts. Why? Well, old vines produce grapes with more concentrated and complex aromas, which can result in higher quality wines.
On one of Jose's trips to Costco he found this 2018 Luca Old Vine Malbec from Argentina with a discount. He loves Malbec and discounts hahahaha plus it is an old vine so it was a no brainer (This wine is usually around $36 and he bought it for $20 or $25 I don't remember the exact price).
This wine comes from vineyards in La Consulta and Gualtallary, both in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. This region has cool weather, high elevation and well-draining alluvial soils, which is a great combination for grape growing and because of it Mendoza’s Uco Valley is one of the most promising wine regions in Argentina.
Luca Old Vine Malbec is deep purple with pronounced intensity aromas and flavors. On the nose: Blackberry, black plum, black cherry, forest floor, mushy leaves, wet stones, all spice.
On the palate: Blackberry, plum, blueberry, cherry and dark chocolate, with low acidity and soft tannins. It's dry, medium body with a medium finish.
We really enjoyed this Malbec, it's fruity, smoother than most Malbec, which makes it easier to drink for more types of palates.
